Ladder 49: The G&S Girls Discover Where the Fire REALLY Is...

Gigi: OK, I am totally dying to see the Ladder 49. But you know I've stopped dating the "people in your neighborhood" as the Sesame Street song goes. Would seeing this be like someone in AA going to a bar?

Shakira: No more "people in your neighborhood?" Like forever?

Gigi: I'm afraid so. Killa Gorilla made me promise. No more cops, firemen or EMTs. No construction workers, milkmen, mailmen...

Shakira: Not even if he has a really big package, just for you?

Gigi: Not even then. Damn.

Shakira: Mmm...a movie about firemen. I will be your enabler. Let's go!

The G&S girls arrive at the theater with a flask of whiskey in tow. A little whiskey in your Sprite makes any movie a winner! We like to call this drink Irish Champagne. Hey some of Gigi's whiskey loving Irish forefathers were firemen. It is a fitting movie beverage.

The movie chronicles the highs and lows of the career of Fireman Jack, played by the scrumptiously manly Joaquin Phoenix. The scenes go back and forth from a recent major fire to flashbacks of his bumbling rookie days and all of his adventures in between...with all of the other hot firemen. John Travolta makes a convincing and handsome fire chief, and the other guys were a nice mix of helmetted hotties. There was one guy who looked a whole lot like the hot gay cop on Six Feet Under. Mmmm...the G&S girls are not made of stone. Yes, you have us, Ladder 49. The adorable Jay Hernandez also played a fireman, though the girls saw entirely too little of him in the film. Where were you, Jay?

This movie actually had a story! And it was sad, exciting and touching at times. Who knew? Ladder 49 is way less cheesy than you'd suspect. It actually has some depth. That said, the G&S girls really enjoyed watching the big hunky firemenz on the big screen. Of course they did NOT make jokes about the fire being in their pants, big hoses or say lewd things about sliding down poles. That must have been the old couple next to them. The girls just quietly sipped their whiskey and watched the film.

All in all Ladder 49 is highly recommended. It would be a great date movie as it's got the whole hero/adrenaline-rush thing for the menz and some tasty treats for the ladies to ogle. That is sure to result in action for everyone involved!
