The 20 Most Embarrassing Tunes I have Recently Belted in My Car

I moved to the far outskirts of the city about a month ago, which means that it takes me about ½ hour to get to work. That’s an hour a day in the car for those of you who don’t share my bad ass math skillz. I thought all of this “alone time” might give me a chance to do useful, noble things like think deep thoughts or listen to NPR, but mainly I find myself singing my head off to some of the worst music EVER, and loving it!! I have no idea how I learned the lyrics to so many cheesy songs. I suspect it comes from having worked in a supermarket for a while in high school, and spending countless hours hanging out in Dunkin’ Donuts in college (you know, like the rest of the cool kids). I wonder if the lyrics are taking up space in my brain for more important things like equations, poetry or clever witticisms.

Occasionally I am filled with fear at the idea that I will be discovered singing enthusiastically along with on of Barry Manilow’s greatest hits. Maybe I will accidentally leave my windows open…eek!!! So in order to nip this fear in the ass, I am choosing to come out to the millions of folks who read this web page. I’m confessing loudly and proudly that I love hideously uncool music!! I love singing to hideously uncool music in my car!!! Whew, it feels good to let that cat out of the bag.

If you are driving alongside me, you may catch the sweet sounds of one of these songs. I've included handy links to the lyrics, so feel free to roll down your window and sing along. I will hide no more!!
