The Bachelor: An Officer and a Gentleman
Episode 6

This is a very special episode of the Bachelor. It's the hometown dates! The Bachelor gets to visit each of the ladies' hometowns and judge her on her family and their home.

The show opens on Andy driving his borrowed car out to his borrowed yacht. Isn't it funny that all he can probably afford in real life is a Ford Escort and a row boat?

Andy describes Tessa as "dynamic." The G&S girls find this a weird descriptor. To Shakira's marketing ear, it sounds like ad copy. Andy thinks Danielle is the "most invested" of the ladies. This also seems an odd way to describe someone. Andy doesn't have a way with words. He likes Amber, but is nervous about her young age and he feels that Bevin keeps getting better and better.

Seattle, Washington

Better and better Bevin is up first. She is from Seattle. She leaps into Andy's arms when he arrives. "I'm in Heaven when I'm with Bevin," he rhymes, sexily. He feels electricity between them. She takes him to a gorgeous waterfall and he stupidly asks whether he's the first boy that she's ever brought there. Lord. They set up a picnic and she informs him that she has a secret to reveal. He is shoveling food into his mouth and nearly chokes when she tells him that it's serious. She reveals that she was married as a teen and that it didn't last long.

Andy seems taken aback and tells her that he has an idea about his future family and that he thinks that marriage shouldn't be taken lightly. Instead of punching him, she just nods her head. He tells her he understands, but he tells the camera that the divorce thing has raised a red flag. He also says that marriage is forever for him. We'll see, Andy.

They go to Bevins's family home where Bevin's mom gives him a painting. Bevin and her dad have a heart to heart. She tells Dad that she's tired of getting her heart broken, but that she has real feelings for Andy. Dad tells her to believe in Andy and give it a shot. She and Dad cry together. The G&S girls think that it should be a sweet father/daughter moment, but it just makes them uncomfortable.

Bevin tells us that love is a big deal to her and that she doesn't use the term lightly (you know, like the rest of us do) but she is falling in love with Andy.

Bethel, Connecticut

Danielle is next! She thinks that she and Andy go well together. The G&S girls have to agree. Danielle and Andy both seem nice, but bland. Danielle says that her family's opinion is a big deal to her because she still lives at home. At 25. Eeek!

Danielle's mom tells Andy that she is worried that he would take Danielle away to Hawaii if they stayed together. Well maybe they could do it in baby steps. They could start out by living in the family's back yard, then down the street, in a neighboring town, across the border in Rhode Island, etc. Andy deflects by telling the family that Danielle would have lots of travel opportunities with him.

The dad then shows off his drumming for Andy and tries to teach Andy how to drum. They seem to love him. Dad says that he'd be very happy if Danielle became Mrs. Lieutenant Andy Baldwin. That's Mrs. Dr. Lieutenant Andy Baldwin to you, Pops.

Washington, D.C.

Tessa immediately points out the capitol for Andy and he's all "er...I KNOW." Heh. They romp in the snow, which reminds Gigi of a date she had in college where she and her boyfriend kept throwing snowballs at each other's butts. It was more fun than it sounds.

Tessa's mom immediately notices how fit Andy is. Believe us, mom, that is one of his very best assets. Tessa's best friend Samantha asks Andy about his faults. He says that he can't sing or cook. She and Tessa's sister then ask him some difficult questions about what it's like to be dating all of the other girls AND Tessa and about what qualities the other girls have that he feels Tessa is missing. He says that Tessa is not as open with her feelings as the others.

After dinner Andy and Tessa's dad go do the dishes. Andy asks Dad if Tessa has brought many guys home. Dad says no. He then goes on to say something about how Tessa went on the show for "fun." This offends Andy for some reason that the G&S girls don't understand. Is fun wrong? Apparently she was supposed to go on the show to be extremely serious about finding a life mate. No fun involved. Tessa does not seem like a party girl, so it is strange that he's acting all worried about this comment from Dad. He decides that he wants to know exactly how Tessa feels, immediately. He takes her aside and she gives him the same old answers about how she really likes him, but she tends to go slow, etc. He gets more pushy and needy, saying "What do you WANT??" She says she wants to fall in love and he's all, "with who????" She tells him with him, of course. He seems satisfied at that point. He says that he wants to fall in love with her. So they are on the same page.

Sugarland, TX

Oh they must be in Texas, because here are the requisite cow shots. The G&S girls can't get enough of those.

Andy goes to the school where Amber teaches and meets the kids. They seem to really love her, so she is probably a really good teacher. Andy is impressed. Unfortunately Amber's family relationships are not so smooth. Her family does not approve of her being on the show, so they refuse to meet Andy. Amber's aunt says she might meet him, but when Amber calls her the aunt cancels. Amber bursts into tears and Andy hugs her and tells her it's ok. The G&S girls doubt that this is true, but we'll see.

Andy goes to Amber's apartment and meets her roommate, who wears an inordinate amount of eye makeup. The girls laugh and drink wine and the roommate points out that the dog is peeing on the carpet. Andy is unimpressed and feels like he is in a sorority house. Then Amber's aunt arrives to save the day. At least they say it's her aunt. This woman really looks more like Amber's roommate than Amber. Are they pulling one over on the Bachelor? They all talk and the aunt tells Andy that Amber is ready to have babies and settle down. None of this seems to fix things for Andy, though. The G&S girls predict that Amber is out.

MOD - Rose Ceremony

Andy gives one of his long boring speeches, saying that he feels responsible for their hearts. Then he gives roses to Tessa, Bevin and Danielle. The G&S girls were right once again! Aw, but poor Amber. All she has is her roommate and incontinent dog.

Amber is mad and doesn't let Andy off the hook easily. She wants to know WHY! He tells her that it is her age and she reminds them that he said that age didn't matter when they were in the hot tub. Well, Amber, age never matters in the hot tub! She asks if it's the unsupportive family thing and he assures her that it wasn't, which really kind of sucks because that means that it's just her. He confirms this by saying that he feels a stronger connection to the other girls.

Amber sobs in the car and swears, which makes the G&S girls feel even worse for her, because you know that her students are watching this episode. Bad night for Amber all around.
